SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Skills have become the latest mechanism for getting the most value out of AI tools. These repeatable, automated workflows don’t require code and can open new possibilities for running a legal function. Scale LLP has released Scale Skills, a free set of legal skills built by practicing attorneys. It can be used directly in Anthropic’s Claude and will be expanded for use with additional LLMs. Scale is the first national law firm to release a branded set of Claude skills.

Scale Skills was developed by attorneys with general counsel experience who understand how legal teams evaluate risk, structure decisions, and advise clients. That judgment is encoded into each skill, so the output mirrors how lawyers actually think through problems.

The initial release includes five skills designed around core legal workflows:

  • Matter Intake and Triage: Prioritizes and routes new legal matters
  • Pre-Litigation Assessment: Analyzes disputes before filing decisions
  • Employee Termination: Structures employment termination decisions
  • Counterparty Risk: Assesses counterparties before engagement
  • NDA Review: Reviews NDAs and surfaces key risks fast

Each skill goes beyond surface-level document preparation and review. The skills work by guiding Claude through a structured sequence, asking the right questions upfront, applying legal reasoning to the response, and delivering organized outputs with clear indications of any risks.

“Any AI will generate a termination letter on demand, and that’s the problem,” said Brian Elliott, General Counsel Services Practice Group Leader and Partner at Scale. “Our Claude Skills can do that too, but first, it will help you decide whether termination is the right call in the first place. That expert legal judgment is what’s encoded into these skills.”

The skills are available as a free download and can be installed in Claude in minutes with no additional software required.

“We’re offering this core set of skills for free because we know our clients are already using AI tools to expedite their workflows, and we want to help them get better responses,” said Adam Forest, Founding Partner at Scale. “AI capabilities are advancing quickly. We’re continuing to build tools that put real legal expertise behind the output.”

“Claude is already core to how I work — Scale Skills takes it further,” said James Wong, General Counsel at Patlytics. “It’s like having a GC-level thought partner for decisions.”

In internal testing against baseline Claude, Scale Skills won 84% of side-by-side comparisons.

Scale is building versions of the core skills toolkit for other major AI platforms, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. The firm also plans to release a pro skill set with deep legal workflows that are maintained by attorneys and available through a paid subscription.
